Rochester's 10th annual Hospice Regatta will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2008. The Regatta will be hosted by Genesee Yacht Club, with assistance from Rochester Yacht Club, Shumway Marine, Pultneyville Yacht Club and other sailing and boating organizations.
The Hospice Regatta is Rochester's premier charity regatta.
Great Racing: With more than 80 boats competing in two fleets, this is the Rochester area's largest keelboat regatta. The overall winner of the Spinnaker fleet earns an invitation to the National Hospice Regattas Championship.
Great Party: Hundreds of sailors + Hospice supporters enjoy each other's company at Genesee Yacht Club, with live music, raffles, plus a barbecue dinner and beverages. Many Hospice supporters will take part in a pre-race Community Cruise and Clambake on Friday, August 15.
Great Cause: Proceeds help to assure that people with end-stage illnesses will have access to services that promise them comfort and dignity at the end of life.
Every dollar raised stays here in the Rochester area to support delivery of excellent end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and compassionate support to their families in Monroe, Wayne and Seneca counties.
Proceeds from the Regatta help to provide start-up funding for new services, such as the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center now under construction on the Unity Park Ridge campus in Greece. Regatta proceeds also help underwrite expenses of providing services not covered by health insurance, including bereavement support for adults and children. In eight years, the Hospice Regatta has generated more than $300,000 for these purposes.
